Doing some homework for a friend. He has his grandfathers or perhaps great grandfathers pipe. It’s stamped Thura. I found Thura from VEB pfiefenwerks Germany. looks like Thura is from Thuringian Forest region. That‘s where my research falls flat.

I checked pipepedia and piphil.eu and that’s all I got. If you have some info, history, or even valuation, he’d love to know ,
more.

Thanks. Jason. 6C7EAADD-8A12-4E8C-B974-0F610F3D53F7.jpeg0F5FAE8C-F346-4E2F-92F8-E27E5AF32EBE.jpeg344A45C6-6149-4299-8002-3551C32D49AF.jpeg

I had a little look and found a long and unformatted document that's absolutely no fun to read and it only mentions VEB Thura once. I ran a section through a translator.

"From November 1, 1945, the company operates under the name Hoßfeld & Peter, Pfeifenfabrik, Schweina.
On January 19, 1946, the district commission issued a sequestration notice to the district administrator of the Meiningen District for the implementation of orders 124 and 126 of the SMAD (Soviet Military Administration).
The shareholder Albin Peter is appointed as a trustee.
In October 1947, the company was subjected to a political revision procedure. Although there was a decision to expropriate only the share of Franz Schreinert, but with effect from 17. April 1948 expropriated the whole company. The production of tobacco pipes was continued under the name VEB Thura Pfeifenfabrik for only a few more years, the technology, materials and workforce were transferred to the former company C. S. Reich."

Here's the whole thing: Vortrag zur Tabakpfeifenherstellung in Schweina - PDF Free Download - https://docplayer.org/74564048-Vortrag-zur-tabakpfeifenherstellung-in-schweina.html
Hope it helps you somewhat.

Franz Schreinert & Co., Pfeifenfabrik, was a pipe maker in Schweina, Germany, eventually part of East Germany. During the Second World War the factory was operated in part with forced labor from prisoners of war. Believed to have been taken over by VEB Pfeifen und Holzerzeugnisse Bad Liebenstein, also known as Howal, which closed in 1990 with the reunification of the two Germanys, and is now owned by Planta / Design Berlin.
