Hi all. What are your thoughts about Mark Tinsky's pipes? With the summer coming, my dad doing better, and another bill payed off I am thinking I might be able to get an actually new pipe. I really love the look of the Tinsky 2012 Christmas pipe and it looks like there are a few left over. Are his pipes a pretty good bet? Is there an American artisan you prefer in the price range (tops is about $275-$300)? This may not pan out but it never hurts to do some research just in case.
Thanks,

Dave

I own a commissioned Tinsky coral finished in the Dunhill PO shape. Great smoker. Real gentleman to do business with. I say go for it.

I've only had the one estate. But it was HUGE, and I sold it. However, it was very well made and I'd gladly buy another. His bulldogs (see above) are some of the best, imho.

I really love his Rhodesian-type shapes. If they smoke well and look that good, I may not be able to resist. Now to decide whether to go with a coral and spalted maple cap or something else entirely.

I actually don't mind lucite amazingly. It might help that I don't clench for the full length of the smoke.
SD, the blast and coral are beautiful but the birdseye on that mocha just grabbed my attention.

Got the green light from SWMBO and bought a Tinsky Christmas Morta. His email says he hopes to have it done by this weekend. First new artisan pipe, first Tinsky and first morta...here's hoping it's all it's cracked up to be.

I've been smoking Tinsky pipes for over 20 years and they are tops in my book. I've never smoked a Morta though.

Great shape and love the stem insert. A fine choice indeed. Let us know what Morta is like.

I bought a Tinsky hawkbill some time ago, and I loved the taste so much I popped for a 2011 Christmas pipe also.

I think he uses Grecian briar, I dunno; but whatever it is, it's tops in my book. I hope the morta smokes as well for you.

I hope you like the morta. I got a 2013 Christmas pipe as well, mine is a blast. I couldn't be happier with mine. I posted about it here.

I met Mark at the last West Coast Pipe Show and had a long chat with him, all the while, perusing a ton of his beautiful pipes. Mark is a gentleman and all around good guy and his work, especially, up close, is amazing! I would definitely would get one!
