The company which made it won't even sign it! It's that ugly. Seriously though the only stamping reads 'Classica - Italy'. Any clues as to which company probably put this monstrosity out here?

Hmmm. A rusticated, fluted/paneled, volcano sitter. Ya, not a real looker, and it looks like it weighs a ton; but it might smoke pretty well.

It's not that bad. It reminds me of a meatball with a stem. Pretty cool & different, you'll have to let us know how it smokes.

I thought my yello-bolle was ugly, though it smokes great. I've looked into the toilet and seen prettier things than that! Don't think I could smoke that one in public.

Thanks guys for the comments and saintpeter I think you might have solved the mystery! Thanks. Will let it be known as to how well it smokes once restoring is completed. I removed layer upon layer of cake build up. The draft hole was completely stopped up to. It was literally a complete and utter mess when it arrived!

Yeah - I have seen many uglier pipes than that (and indeed, I own a few). Try it out, it may provide an amazing smoke, kind of like the homely chick at the dance who really puts out, lol.

Having seen the photo and heard the whole scenario, I was surprised it was a hand-carved pipe by a well regarded craftsman.

In order to do creative work, you have to do a bad job now and then, and in terms of design, I'd put this in that category. Why?

It has a rough hewn appeal, and certainly the texture is distinctive, with both the fluted ridges and the rusticated pitting. But

things aren't brought together. The texture is brick-like, and not in a pleasant way, or like a drib of plaster that fell out of the

bucket. It does have a sort of scat look to it, or maybe like a dinosaur dropping. But it is an honorable failure, like a distinctly

poor poem or painting by a generally good artist. Some days, you are figuring something out, and you have to do one or two

really unsatisfactory pieces to get to the one you're after. Not a bad pipe to own, I'd say. There's a lot of information about

the process of getting to an altogether beautiful pipe in this less than beautiful pipe.

I was going to be contrary and say because it is an Oom Paul shape sitter, there are so few that are shown on this forum, it gets points up for being what it is.
On the other hand, man, that is one ugly carving. But to be fair, to a mother or father, each child is beautiful in its own way. (Politically correct time is now over)
LOL
