This is from a thread on a tech site:
----------------------------------------------------------

I have been doing my fathers computer systems for a long time, and normally I replace his system within a few months to keep him up to date. I built him a Chief Tech full tower and he's been using it for about 6 months now, he complained that his system was running slow etc so I popped open the case to check for over heating and found this:

Lesson is if you smoke, get filters this is only 6ish months of smoke and dust. Plus the sheer amount of dirt and caked smoke is amazing lol

----------------------------------------------------------
I should note that this is only a problem if your room is smokey when the PC is actually on, with the fan spinning.

It's the builder's fault.. If you have a fan blowing INTO the machine, you always put a filter over it. ALWAYS!
In related news, Apple has a clause in their warranty that states they don't have to fix your computer if they think you've smoked around it.

Having worked in IT for some 11 - 12 years now it pains me to say that I've seen that bad in non smoking work environments. Although, that looks like newer equipment than the stuff I've seen that gets that bad.

Tell him to vacuum .that is not smoke damage . And that setup is older than Iam . I have not seen a Via chipset on a full size mother board in eons . And that is why you are supposed to open the side of your case and use those cool little cans of compressed air every once in a while .

I have 2 cats, 3 dogs, birds and kids and run 4 machines in a small room I smoke in. They get dusty but never like that! 8O
Then again I've worked on computers that had dead mice and cockroaches in them, so this isn't too terrible.

I had one in trade in. Looked tons worse that what you posted. It was a HUGE tower, aluminum and clear plexi. It stunk i mean this thing was nasty but it too was very old.
I have since cleaned it up and rebuilt it for myself. I have lots of fans, led lights, AND FILTERS! lol I couldn't imagine someone letting their pc get to looking that awful. But you know, sometimes older folk get a pc, and have no clue about things. They may not know to take it apart and keep it clean.

Maybe this is where I should mention I have no idea who this guy is with the dirty PC, I just found the thread on the web (which I indicated in the original post).

So it's the consensus of everyone here that smoking by your computer doesn't harm it at all?
Why do I feel like I should never have posted this in the first place?

Yes, something else contributing......like 'super value' brand. That casing is so thick,it'd drip down my dashboard..
