Thinking about a calabase...

So I've been thinking lately about getting a calabash pipe, but since I'm not very well versed in pipes I'm not sure where to start looking. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, I would love something under $50. Is that even possible?

Not sure the quality your going to get with that. (and I am by no means a pipe snob, my best smokers are $12.00 eaby finds). I have not seen anything "worth" buying for under $80.00 in that style. Best of luck to you though, I hope you can prove me wrong!

Most of the members grab them off of E-bay, since I don't think anyone makes them with genuine gourds anymore.
There are places that sell them in various woods, but I do believe that a gourd is the most sought after.
Keep searching the forums! There should be many previous threads on this subject.

I would suggest eBay as well, one thing to look out for is make sure the insert is meerschaum and not porcelain, a lot of the cheaper pipes are not meerschaum and that will really ruin the pipe. With that being said you will probably not know the difference between pressed meer and block meer so whatever the cheapest you can find on eBay that says its meer will work wonderfully for you!

I have a gourd one with a meer bowl and I got it on ebay for 35. I had another one that was gourd and I got it for 46.
