Just as the title implies. I am on the hunt for a thick walled poker. Something about the shape and style really appeals to my eye. So, for you poker smokers, share your thoughts, pipes, experiences, recommendations, etc. Is the poker suitable for a nice long smoke? What should I be looking for?

I have two briar pokers, a Parker and a La Rocca, neither a particularly impressive pipe, but good solid smokers, and both thick walled. The La Rocca caught my eye at my local independent pipe shop, but the patterned rustication looked a little corny, so I passed on it, but it kept coming to mind. When I went back a few months later, I thought if it was still there, I'd buy it. It was, so I did. It took a long time to fully break in, but it seems to improve a little every time I smoke it. It's a good deep bowl, average diameter but two inches depth. It has nice balance, and the carved rustication is distinctive. It looks better over time. The Parker is a slightly smaller pipe, shorter, but it a good clencher and nice and light for walking and smoking. It's a sandblast black.

I have one Poker and it smokes great. I however like the looks of a Cherrywood much better. It has nicer lines and has really thick walls even thicker than a Poker.

Pokers are one of those shapes that I never thought I would enjoy; a bit too rustic. That is, until I received some Huck Finns along with my different Peterson Mark Twain sets.
Now -- I love that shape (with my favorite finish being rusticated; go figure)! They work exceedingly well (in my opinion) for VaPers and VapBurs, and the 'sitter' quality of the shape was a surprise bonus, that I also didn't think I would enjoy. I own five now, and am looking to branch out to other manufactures, styles, and sizes in the future.
They do (for me) seem to burn a bit warmer than a billard, but nothing that control, time, and cake doesn't seem to remedy.
Good luck, and puff on!

Savinelli's 311 has caught my eye. Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of their alligator pieces.

Poker pipes are my absolute favorite pipe! I don't personally have one but you should look up crowpipes on etsy.com. Very thick walls and he can accommodate any changes I'm sure.

The poker will round out my 7 day rotation of pipes, looking for a pipe lighter also. :puffy:

How thick you looking for? Similar to the one in this photo?
Never had a poker so I am not sure really. From looking, they all seem to be relatively close. That's a fine looking cellar easterntraveler! I will get there someday :worship:

You guys sure have some fine pipes!

I have a couple pokers, one miniature and another that's meerschaum lined. To me the narrow straight cylinder shaped bowl is ideal for flakes using the fold and stuff method. Often Pokers have this style chamber.

Would you call this a Poker? Well at least it is a "sitter".

I like the sandblast on my Armellini.

Boswell Pipes usually has a poker or two on their weekly load of pipes for sale. www.boswellpipes.com
I own one poker, and it's a Boswell nose warmer. Personally, I find it a charming little pipe and fun to hold. I've only smoked McClelland's Red Cake in it, but it was a smooth easy smoke.

I only have two pokers, one an old Kaywoodie, and the Savinelli 311. Both smoke great and I like the shape.
But if you want to blame chasingembers some more just buy some Black Frigate tobacco to go in that Sav 311!

That's what I blame (thank) him for...

I may add some for next order, seeing how he readily promotes the stuff like it were the new Penzance :puffy:
