In part 2 of Carter's series we learn that smoking isn't actually illegal, but of course you knew that.
I am reading and hearing about more things every day that are giving me visions of the crowd revolt in Egypt, except I see it here in the USA, and the entire crowd is smoking tobacco.

Interestingly enough, King James wanted to abolish the use of tobacco.

This edict resulted in a large crowd of Pipe smokers assembling on his

doorstep, all puffing furiously. When he told them to disperse, they puffed

all the more, sending great clouds of smoke his way. He went back inside and

decided that instead of banning the use of tobacco, he would tax it to the limit

and benefit from the revenue of this luxury tax.
