This is the epitome of absurdity.
Recipe for such -
1. Make up a bunch of lies and pass them off as scientific studies.
2. Add more lies that your actions are to save the children.
3. Target a nearly helpless minority that harms no one, strip them of their rights for your own personal agenda.
4. Add in some legislation that closes legitimate businesses which are steeped in over 200-years of tradition.
Put in Microwave until it explodes in your face.
That's what I hope happens with this ... that it explodes in the Washington State Legislature's face.
They should all be removed from office and tarred and feathered.
Please do me a favor and comment on the article and not just here. It's important that people see the comments on the article, especially for this one. I don't care if it's just a copy / paste of your forum post.

I am very displeased with how society is rolling along. For a period firearm owners were demonized much like we smokers are now...however there seem to be more politically active gun owners to fight back. We as smokers need an NRA! A National Smoker's Alliance or the like!

I want to be very clear here -- this is not hyperbole, this is not sensationalism, -- The government making these actions is not different than the iron fist of the Roman Catholic or the Anglican churches that were so responsible for this country's successful colonization (ironically, the sale of tobacco was also responsible for that)-- and every dictator, tyrant and flat-out despot both got to power, and used their power by saying the same tired-ass thing over and over and over "It's for your own good."
The most evil man in the world is the one that believes his actions are for the greater good, because then he has no conscience to even slow him down.

Something I've wondered for years now -- "Tobacco companies are liars, cheats, and marketing towards children."
the hell man? They aren't allowed to make -any- public statements, THEY pay for all the anti-smoking campaigns, they can't advertise anywhere but playboy magazines and only Djarium seems to bother with that . . . in what universe are they marketing to anyone?
Furthermore, all claims that smoking in children is on the rise are never accompanied by anything resembling proof, not even a number. Whereas every study that says underrage smoking has been roughly the same for 50 years has -some- backing evidence. Nothign conclusive because you CAN'T get anything close to accurate numbers on stuff like that -- but experience has suggested to me more kids are drinking and doing drugs (anything from pot on up) than are smoking, if you don't count people who do those things and also smoke as smokers. Otherwise in sum total smokers are slightly more prevalent because almost all drug-users and drinkers smoke. Again, in my experience from high-school and uni.
Also, I've never met anyone that started with flavoured things, almost everyone starts with cigs stolen from someone's parents. Furthermore, why are they hitting the hell out of flavoured tobaccos but not "tobacco" stuff only useful for pot? Oh riiiight. . . because this is the same state working on making pot legal.
God I bloody hate politicians! The sycophantic buggers -really- need to nanny their children and leave us be.
