Has anyone tried THE PIPE. I got one awhile back in a group purchase. the stem seemed very loose so i never smoked it. Last night i was relaxing and thought what the hell the worst I will loose is a small amount of tobacco. Immediately after lighting the stem got tight and smoked just fine. I was impressed that the pipe didnt get hot

A guy used to come into the old JB Hayes shop in VA. He had one pipe, a black "The PIpe" he had owned for over 40 years. He would come in weekly for supply of his blend (10 oz or so). His "The PIpe" looked like it had been dipped in tar, it was filthy with build-up like lava overflowing the bowl top. He said it smoked great and he never saw a need to buy another pipe.

Years ago I saw The Pipe for sale at J&R outlet in a plastic bubble package. I find the idea of a synthetic material for the traditional briar/cob/meer a turnoff, but that's just my being a traditionalist. I don't think The Pipe was nearly as heavy as Brylon, which wasn't as big but was overweight for its size. Also, I don't think The Pipe heated up that way. However, Brylon was also exceedingly durable and washable, and a Forums member who worked in fire reclamation, in the dust, grease and ash, said Brylon was ideal for him because he could wash up the pipe after a days at work. Brylon finally went out of production in the last few years, and I think The Pipe is also long discontinued, but correct me if I'm wrong. I've never wanted The Pipe nor a Brylon pipe, but have always been intrigued by their persistent sales; quite a few must have liked the idea.

I have one, and think it's great.

I don't know the physics behind pyrolytic graphite, but I believe heat transference is high and conductance is low. This means heat in one area of the bowl will easily spread to other parts of that layer of the bowl, but will not conduct heat through to the outside of the bowl.

Easy to clean, no cake, and very clean-tasting.

I have several and smoke them when I don't want to worry about damaging or losing a pipes (rather like a cob). They are a decent smoke but I find you need to pack them looser than a briar or they can get quite hot.
