For many years I attended the early pipe show in Columbus, OH. It was less commercial, newbes warmly welcomed by the good old boys. The older hotel allowed smoking. Always carried a large bag for the reasonable priced swag. Board in the lobby posted day before rooms open for sale and trade. Show room was piled high with used wood and tobac. Venders welcomed the haggle over price. For an old pipester the new shows while still great events have lost the luster.
