I wonder how this impacts the chain and the brand. Tinder Box still has a number of franchises (if that's what they are) around the country.

It makes sense to move them to the 'burbs anyway. People can't smoke in offices anymore, and would be more likely to stop in for a smoke if it was near home.

Did you read that they were seeking a new lease? I'd be very surprised if this store reopens anywhere. But pleased!

The only other places I know of besides tinder box and tobacco trader are Lone Wolf cigars in Santa Monica (owned by Chuck Norris 8)), and Taylor's Cigar Lounge in Long Beach. Both those mostly blend aro's.
If you guys know of any others, please let me know. I'm not able to order online at the moment.

I've never even been to a tinderbox, but I definitely feel the pain...

You must live ina barren wasteland also.
Yeah, I've known this was coming for the past two years. Ed Koplin's daughter-in-law sold the property a couple of years ago and the place was on a two year lease.

Jim was the one that told me it'd be around April sometime. When that came and went, I was hoping against hope, just like I'm hoping that they'll pop up somewhere else.
Kramers! A venerated shop in Beverly Hills.

Kramer's is awesome, it's like stepping back in time. And the Keller's could probably take anyone at the Tinder Box to school. I finished off some black supreme last month, father dempsey's is a favorite.

Real estate is the key factor in brick and mortar retail, both whether the location promotes sales, and what the rental and property tax is on specific properties. My local independent pipe shop is at the edge of a campus. It is in a row of shops including a tattoo business and a bicycle shop. It used to be surrounded by old frame houses subdivided into rental apartments and rooms for students. In the past few years, the immediate neighborhood has gone to completely spanking new apartments and condos with the old houses torn down. So far, so good for the pipe shop. I think the proprietor/owner said he gets some business from the new building residents. I'm hoping the upgrade in the neighborhood doesn't increase his taxes or rent in a threatening way. My wife was gentrified out of her excellent old 19th Century apartment in Greenwich Village NYC, when a buyer upgraded the building to a luxury single family dwelling investment which then stood empty for years, I guess paying out huge property tax while appreciating in value. A lot of these go to overseas owners who use them as investments and occasional visits to NYC. Most of the artists, writers, musicians, journalists, and other creative types who used to be the tourist draw have long been run out -- to Brooklyn, or Oklahoma or somewhere else.
