Pretty odd eh?

That stretched saddle bit is truly strange,

does it qualify as a churchwarden?

Or some weird variant?
looks to be fairly old, can't make out the hallmarks,

but it has a threaded tenon...

Would probably like it better with a slight bend, but that is definitely a churchwarden.

That's for the pipe smokers who really want to get the bowl smoke away from their face. It's an interesting piece.

I think technically that is called a Television pipe. Long straight church wardens are classified as such.
Interesting.

I've seen them described as such also as it seemed to be a trend at one time, probably in the 40's or 50's?
They seemed to be made by alot of different makers from different countries, but they weren't all straight churchwardens...
...the most famous I think are the French examples:

Here's a Big Ben version complete with box that says Television Pipe...

I think this EAS pipe was made well before the invention of teevee though,

I'd guess it was made right at the turn of the 20th C or shortly thereafter...

Looks like a 'photoshopped' classic bulldog with saddle stem.
:)
It looked that way to me too!
The stretch looks almost surreal, like some kind of mad art project,

it's quite interesting...
...and you can buy it right now for $108.50

:P

Large EAS Pipe. 15" Vintage Pipe. Very Good Condition.
A bit pricey, but it looks in good condition,

and,

how many of these have you seen????
A pretty rare bird I'd reckon.

So. Cal.
Yeah, TV pipe. Forgot about that term. The 1st and only churchwarden I owned (Sav) I shattered the shank on the first smoke when I turned to do something not being used to the length. Would not have happened if I was simply watching the tube.

It's not a television pipe. Churchwarden, maybe; library pipe, maybe. The shield shape indicates 19th century, sometime between 1876 and 1895. That era would be consistent with the carving, shank shape, and screw tenon.
