I received my 309 yesterday. The drilling and the workmanship, from the stem to the bowl is spot on. No complaints. So far, the pipe is breaking in as expected. What I do wish was different is the size of the stem. It is actually well crafted with strong masculine lines - in almost a Mussolini artistic way …. Interesting to say the least. However, the length of the stem should have been increased by at least an inch and a half to create a better balanced and historically more accurate look for the 309. View attachment 373614
I will have an alternate stem made for the pipe so that it has the following look….View attachment 373615The current configuration comes in at just over 5 inches. What are your thoughts?
I have an Irish Seconds (XL339S) which I frequently smoke using a Savinelli Dry System (2614KS) Stem to achieve the longer length of the older style. It fits mostly well if centered. If you have one try it to see if it fits until you can have one made. 2 cents.

I picked up one, not the stander system though. I don’t have any of the older ones, but I absolutely enjoy the new one.
Might look at getting a 2nd 309 so I can let one rest while smoking the other one.
Great pipe!
