Today, we lost a man that stood at the very top of the heap in his chosen sport. Jim Brown. Cleveland Browns running back, died at age 87. While it created no buzz in our circle he stands today as arguably the best the game has ever seen at any position. I know most of you are little young to have seen him play but let me tell with a football tucked under his arm he was a monster.

Fun side note:

When the UFC first started, Brown was hired as the main announcer's wingman / color commentary guy.

The first several tournaments had literally no rules save for no biting or deliberate eye gouging---even groin shots were allowed---and the organizers were afraid the worldclass tough guys who showed up would feel insulted or get mad if the fights weren't called by someone THEY respected.

That's almost scary, right there.

Why did he leave the job after a while? He refused to soften his, um, uncharitable commentary when a fighter didn't show enough heart, did something stupid, or etc. Turns out the show producers only THOUGHT they wanted a badass. rotf
