Here is a real nice unsmoked pipe set that I acquired along with the L. Friedlander telescoping silver mounted meerschaum pipe I listed here the other day. I have researched the name on the pipe but to no avail. So, it is my hopes that someone can shed some light on this mysteriously named pipe. It has the silver hallmarks from Glasgow 1910 and the letters MF in a rectangle. All it reads on the pipe is THE "F" BRAND. Beautiful companion set with amber stem also.

Might be Montague Alexander Friedlander and Julia Friedlander who traded as A. Friedlander & Co in Glasgow. They're listed as wholesale tobacconists and pipe mounters.

I was curious to see if anyone had any information as to why the pipe was called (The"F"Brand". You have to admit its a strange name for such a fine quality silver mounted briar pipe. I was already certain the set was made by the Glasgow side of the Friedlander family considering the MF stamping and the Glasgow 1910 hallmark.

I guess I am just fishing for more information. Due to my inquiring mind, I guess.

When it comes to research, my motto is: Any job worth doing, is a job worth doing well!

It removes all doubt & guess work!

Thanks for your expertise & input Jesse. I suspect you are correct. I can only assume this set is something more along the lines of a novelty item perhaps considering the funky name. Or even more so, an anomaly. A better suited name should have been something more in line of "The Friedpiper" according to my grandson. And that's pretty sad when a child can come up with a better name than the maker. The "F" Brand, really!
