There was a time when I collected only Dunhill pipes. Since then I've broadened my interest and branched out. However, my 5128 in dress finish remains my favorite pipe. The way it sits in the hand, the wide shallow bowl, the gentle curve, everything about it... It's, for me, the perfect pipe. I like the author okay, not the prince. I'm in the midst of brokering a trade with an online seller for a second 5128 in a chestnut finish and it's likely that I'll eventually have a complete set in all available finishes. Based on current prices in the secondary market, there are obviously other fans out there. I was just wondering if there were others here like me with a passion for this specific pipe. Photos would be cool to....

While I did place a freeze on any further acquisitions, this didn't include trade transactions. A 5128 in a chestnut finish doesn't come around too often. I've watched Ebay daily since last year and I found only two, one of which I purchased and with the second I didn't trust the seller. This Diplomat is a dream pipe I can't miss out on, but it'll be a trade and no cash.

So. Cal.
I have its late '70's funky cousin. The very wide oval stem has to be experienced as I did not think I would like it in the least, but I find I can't put it down. Root.

Yeah that Christmas one is awesome!! However WAY outta my price range, but would certainly be my favorite pipe were I to own one.
Thanks for that link!!! I've sent smokingpipes an email with that link asking why the BIG discrepancy in price. I'll post their response when I get one.
Once again, responses like yours is why I post these threads! You never know what you'll find.

N8, just a FYI, if you aren't already aware of it, smoking pipes are very good with their instant chat function on the site. Takes away and drastically shortens the waiting time to receive a response and the guys knowledge and experience are top notch. You might already use the function, but if not there ya go, give it a shot!

After talking to smokingpipes I might end up with enough credit to actually purchase the Cumberland Christmas Edition Diplomat!!! That Cumberland would be the perfect compliment to my 5128 Black briar w/ silver band!! I'm très excited!!

junkyard, you actually prefer the Diplomat shape to the bent apple, but I completely understand why you'd make such a mistake.
Booker, once you win the lottery just remember all of us little people here in Forum Land. Your offer to purchase us all Cumberland Diplomats with sterling silver bands in Custom Dunhill cases is such a profoundly nice gesture!!

Nice comfy shape and length, I'm becoming more and more interested.
I have yet to try a prince / diplomat shape myself, almost all billiard shapes in here with me.

I'm not a huge fan of the prince and I'm not entirely certain why the always get clumped together. It's the wide stem and bowl and the way it sits in the hand. It's perfectly shaped to sit in your palm. You can better tell in this photo the shape...

Damn... I've come upon yet another pipe I want on their site. I can't afford both and must pick one. Gah what a mistake I made by looking around!!!!!

"Wide stem and bowl", then you may like the various "Ukulele" shapes by Sixten Ivarsson.

They are some of the early Stanwell shapes that I think I may acquire one day.

How did this turn out? Did you get either of the pipes from SP? What was their reply about the pricing?
Come on man, we have to know. Now! :)
