Pipe Dreamer and Star Gazer
We all have our own favorite blends. Some blends seem to be shine best for certain moments. We have blends we reach for when we want some thing complicated or interesting. There are also blends we want that are simply able to provide a good reliable and decent smoke. This is mine.

This is a blend I often reach for when I am looking for something that reminds me of comfort food. It is based on my own original blend, developed in partnership with John Dengler over 40 years ago. The Doctor's Own Blend has a base of Lane BCA and a small amount of Sutliff Nougat with the addition of Latakia and Perique. It is my own attempt to merge Dengler's Black Maria (Mariah) with the one he and I developed so many years ago, Telescopes.

Upon opening the jar, the smoker is greeted by a pleasant whiff of honey and mellon with side notes of nougat. These notes continue upon lighting and are followed by notes of vanilla and chocolate with bourbon - reminiscent of Woodford reserve. One can definitely taste chocolate and hints of caramel. The black cavendish provides a solid mellow background of toasty wheat. The Latakia is only slightly smokey and works to fill in flavor notes that might otherwise be missing. It partners with the Perique to enhance the overall blend by balancing what would otherwise be a straight aromatic smoke. The room note is very pleasant and welcoming. The strength is mild with a low nic hit. The mid smoke balances between the black Cavendish and latakia and perique. There is no bite and perhaps only one relight might be necessary. There is no harshness. It is an all day smoke. Being that it is my blend and in light of the fact that it was designed to be a comfort blend with the intention providing an easy smoke with no fuss, I give it 4 stars.
