After enjoying my first experience with a blend - Figgy Pudding - from The Country Squire tobacconist this past winter I picked up some of their other tobaccos to try.
I just finished a couple ounces of their brand new offering - Tres Leches - & thought I'd jot down my impressions.
The pouch note is that of a very mild vanilla casing on a soft burley ribbon cut bed. Moist but not heavily laden with humectants. Didn't need any drying time. Like most ribbon cut blends it packed easily & took to the match uneventfully. Easy to puff contentedly down to a nice grey ash. It's quite mild with a sweet taste & soft vanilla casing that lets the underlying tobaccos through. Great room note in the somebody-just-baked-some-cookies genre. Didn't goop up my pipes. All-in-all a very pleasant experience.
I don't remember that last time I had a piece of actual Tres Leches, a three-milk sponge cake sort of affair, but other than the vanilla I'm not sure why this pipe tobacco carries that name. The website mentions butterscotch but I barely got any butterscotch flavor as I puffed away. I guess it was somewhat creamy so maybe that counts.
I suspect folks into Latakia blends or heavy hitters with lots of dark-fired leaf would not find much of interest in this mild aromatic but I liked it.
Tres Leches is a subtle mixture. Simply an understated pleasant pipe tobacco that translates into a very enjoyable pipe smoking experience. Something to stuff in your pipe & simply enjoy. I guess that's what I often look for in a pipe tobacco & recommend Tres Leches without hesitation.
