I rarely leave my mountain, in fact, I take pride in being the curmudgeon on the mountain.

Well today I went to go pick up some "exotic" plants for the garden, before I left I mapped out 3 tobacconists to visit that looked promising, and boy was I wrong, the first had some loose house blends in bulk, everything else was cigars, this from a place named XXXX Pipe Shop, the second and actually the best was more of a cigar and liquor store, they had 2 tins of sutliff blends and one Comoy's CASK No 12 that I bought, the third, aside from cigars, had a few Petersons tins, and that was it.

The Comoy's CASK# 12 blew the metal tin seal going from 85' to 2200' but surprisingly the foil internal seal is still in place, it's puffed up, but holding currently.

When I got home my Smoking Pipes order was waiting for me, had a nice bowl of Mac Baron Symphony and watered the new plants while they are acclimating to the new microclimate.

So for all of you with a local B & M that actually has a few tins of tobacco on the shelfs, don't take it for granted.

The B & M is dead, long live the B & M.

You never know what you'll find. Cigar shops will sometimes have a few tins. Surprisingly, one of the smoke shops near me that specializes more in glass pipes actually had some decent tins and pouches when I checked on a whim. SPC, Amphora, Peterson, and of course, Captain Black. I stocked up on Amphora Virginia because they were practically giving it away. It's a very enjoyable VA.

Have you given thought to the fact that maybe, just maybe, it's the region you live in?
For example, I live 30 miles from New Orleans. We have the B&M where we hold on pipe club meetings that has made the effort to restock all their pipe tobaccos. There is a cigar and pipe shop in Covington that stocks bulk blends (the owner swears that no one buys tinned tobacco anymore. LOL), There are also decent pipe and cigars shops in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles. I have also found good B&Ms with pipes and pipe tobacco in West Monroe and Shreveport (I haven't been in that part of the state for four or five years so i don't know if they are still there.)
Then we have The Country Squire which also about a 3 hr drive from New Orleans.

I stop by my B&M at least twice a month. It’s a great shop with a strong selection of pipes and tobaccos.

Name one in Lafayette besides Pipers Haven, simply because I’m looking for one. I have yet to find one decent in my local area.

Piper's Haven is the only one I know of in Lafayette. The last time I was in there, they had a decent selection of bulk blends and some interesting pipes but were light on tins. The guy I talked to said he had been waiting for a order of tins to come in.

I was up in PA last week, near Allentown (met Lestrout and Woodsroad for dinner). I stopped at the two Cigars International stores. The big Superstore used to have a lot of blends, now, they are eliminating pipes altogether. They had a few scattered tins, priced low. I picked up a few.
15 years ago, there used to be shops up in the mid-Atlantic:
Faders - three in Baltimore
JB Hayes - two in VA
Pipes & Cigars in Albay.
JR Cigars - two in NJ
Now, only Boswells in Chambersburg PA and one JB Hayes in Winchester VA remain.

Sadly that’s the only shop I got in driving distance. And it’s still an hour away.

Real pipe shops, the type that existed 40 plus years ago, are far and few between. In Southen California we have a few still left, two in Sandiego and one in Temecula. In Springfield, MO, Just For Him is an outstanding pipe shop with all the Bells and Whistles.
In San Diego, is Racine & Laramie still a going concern? Or is it closed down?

I have three Tinder Box B&M's here in Memphis and they get great stuff. Regular drops of Gawith, Esoterica, etc. But for some reason they never get the C&D limited releases. But I have a great cellar thanks to Tinder Box.

No photo's yet, they're all in the "nursery" area of the property "adjusting".

All heirloom varieties, some of the backstories are fun, like:

Burmese Sour Tomato
Tulsi Basil 'Vana'
