I have bough this air purifier thing from xiomi, since my allergies this year have been worse than before. The funny thing is that whenever I smoke a pipe in my den, further down the hallway, in the living room the the air purifier goes bananas. From 001 air safety, it goes to 300+. It does the same thing with scented sticks, you know the Asian ones that you light on fire. Kind of funny ... It does a great deal with ambrosia polen though, so I guess it stays even if doesn't like my pipe smoking. Besides, I know the air turns hazardous when I smoke, my wife tells me that all the time, so I guess another voice won't get through my thick skin ? puffy

I use this in my shed when I have a pipe. Works great and thankfully it does not have one of those sensors, or at least not one that is automatically active. It was about $150 I think on Amazon

Does it work at all? I have three and they all suck.. probably all three were in the 75 dollar range. I've been tempted to go up to 150 or 200 and see if they work better.

Like I said I got mine for other purposes than cleansing tobacco smell, but now that you mention it, it does work. It doesn't eliminate the odor 100%, but the little lady notices a difference. For instance if I smoke in my den with the door closed and the air purifier running on the second level, the smell doesn't leave the den vs. no air purifier it would crawl underneath the door and stink up the living room and whatever room had the door open leading from the hallway. The down side of having it filter pipe smoke is that it depletes the filter a bit faster ... and a filter costs roughly EUR 30. The air purifier was in the EUR 150 range. I won't be running it day in and day out as allergies season will go away, but will turn it on on occasions to keep the wife happy when I will smoke something heavier during the winter.

Yes, mine works well. The filter does require changing more often than the manufacturer recommends because of the smoke. It has a hepa and a charcoal filter.

The vast majority of people are unwittingly breathing horrible air at home because they don't change filters and they never clean their ductwork.
Yep, I have an inline vent system in my house, that I installed myself to help reduce smoke. I keep the filters checked and I have a guy who cleans my ducts for my HVAC. I had a vent come unattached under the house for my HVAC, and was wondering why I could hear critters through one of the vents in the floor in a back room. Turns out that a possum had pulled the vent down, and was using it as a bed. That's when we hired the guy to keep them clean for us. The possum was tasty, btw. puffy

Most intriguing. I wonder if that is an accurate take on the indoor pollution, or if it is some small quantity of a particularly reactive molecule/ion. My wife got us some Casswell-Massey soap that is so fragrant I find myself taking hits off the cellophane wrapped bars. It is a 1752 scent said to be formulated for and favored by George Washington. When one of us takes a nice sudsy shower with this soap -- my wife is still skeptical of this -- it sets off the smoke alarm. If we close the bathroom door tightly, this does not happen. Smoke alarms are keyed to specific ions in smoke that may exist in high fragrance soap, if my theory is correct.

When I smoked I smoked for years in the livingroom, but when my cat started wheezing, I retired to the bathroom. Little did I know that I was breathing my own secondhand smoke. I would have needed to quit in any case, but I might have gone on another year or two had I not.

Philairfoil- I believe that is a fine example of an "extra light" pipe. That person is ahead of their time.
