Thank You, Community

A big, heartfelt thank you to this community.

I left piping twenty years ago. It was among my favorite hobbies outside writing and travel. When I returned after a long hiatus,
after an extremely difficult past year, life took on a much different note. Piping has helped me relax with great joy, thoughtfulness and reflection. It is something I can seek with others who I know enjoy, at least in part, a similar sense of 'watching' the world and 'tasting' it.

After my father suffered a heart attack several months ago, I received his pipe. It is one I remember from childhood. It brought me closer to him, and helped ease some of the distance I felt (we live 3,000 miles away). Although I haven't yet posted much, I've been following these forums awhile. The community has been a place where I can stick my head in, listen to the conversations, and know others might appreciate the same small, but meaningful relationships with their fathers and grandfathers.

Now that I've got gray hair, and a longer beard, I return to piping much grateful. Wish I could meet some of you guys in person. Until then, thanks for the reviews, the stories, the insight and humor.

The absolute, unequivocal best way to meet other pipe smokers is by attending a pipe show.

I have three of my father’s pipes that I cherish. My Dad has been gone now for nearly 30 years.

Are you a Deacon (presuming so from your moniker)? May I ask what faith?

My father passed before I ever picked up a pipe. He was a cigarette chain smoker, but I remember him firing up a pipe every now and then when I was a kid. I often think of how much he would enjoy the heck out of having a smoke with me now if he were still here.

I do hope you'll stick around and get to know a few of the regular posters around here. Most here are very knowledgeable and genuinely interested in sharing their experiences and helping others with any pipe related issues.

Their wit and humor can make the most grizzled Curmudgeon crack a smile too, and that keeps me coming around as often as I can.

I don't do a lot of posting, as I'm still learning the ropes myself, but I feel you have a lot you can contribute to the forum

Inheritated pipes are the most precious ones. They have a lot of history. I personally Inheritated a collection by my uncle who I did not have that much contact but he knew I was interested so he gave it not to his son but ordered to give it to me. They are loved and cared for and every time I light it I think about him. Same goes for my far fetched grand uncle and his dunhil I got from my far grand aunt.
This are treasures who give the best memories and connect centuries and family. Enjoy it care for it and enjoy.
