Temperature Fluctuations And Long Term Storage

I have about 15 years worth of pipe tobacco Id like to still be good in the future. Right now its in a storage container in the closet.

My concern is the temperature fluctuations that occur daily at my house. I live in the south and any time of the year except winter my inside temperature gets up to about 73 but drops as low as 63 at night because we're polar bears and like it cold (crank up the AC).

Do you think these temp fluctuations would have a negative effect in the long run? Should I store the tins in an insulated cooler or would that even matter?

Those ranges are perfect. Not because of science, but because those are my house’s temps also.
I doubt whether there’s a perfect temperature, because in tins and jars, they’re fairly well protected. And, some people store it in a much hotter temp. The main worry is rust. The tobacco will be fine.

The main thing that made me wonder is that cigar afficianodos say that cigars like stable temperatures at 70 degrees. I have cigars too, just not near as much.

Don’t worry about it . Honestly it’s not a concern, even a little. The ambient temperature fluctuations in your home are fine, and normal. Absolutely won’t effect a thing.

I don't see an issue with your situation. I'd think the temperature would have to fluctuate significantly more to cause a problem.

A 10 degree swing isn’t a big deal.

I wouldn't worry unless it goes really high. 60 to 70, I wouldn't worry about it. I saw a picture of a large jar cracking open due to built up pressure from tobacco storage. Can't imagine that happening at around 70.

My house stays between 76 and 80, no issues here.

Heck you'd probably have nothing to worry about even with more extreme temp variation. Tobacco will be fine, but seals (on square or rectangular tins especially) might pop. Vacuum seal the tins in food saver or similar bags or open them and seal the contents in a vac sealed ball jar. High humidity on the other hand, isn't good for tins...some will rust.

And like the other have said, don't worry.

Variation would affect cigars more because you are worried about construction and temperature and humidity variations can interfere with that over repeated cycles due to expansion and contraction.
