I've been looking at some pipes online and sometimes in the description is lists the pipe as being tapered. For example this pipe. Should I assume that without bowl dimensions that the bowl itself is tapered? I have a no-name rhodesian that has a tapered bowl that I'm not fond of and I would like to avoid getting another one like it.

I looks to me like the walls of the bowl are slightly thinner at the top. I have seen other pipes with tapered shanks, but this one looks straight, so it must be referring to the bowl.

I believe they are referring to the taper of the outside of the bowl. Looking at these pipes on smokingpipes.com website, the bowl dimensions are given, and they don't alude to the chamber being tapered. Usually it's pipes with a deep bowl that tapers from large to small from top to bottom that have a tapered chamber.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that it didn't refer to the bowl shape, but wanted to double with others who are more knowledgeable.

The pipes I have that have tapered chambers are mostly like this one.

Just to throw a cat among the pigeons, sometimes refers to the stem being tapered instead of saddle. Re that apple you show.

Yeah, that could also be true, I'm not sure how I forgot about that. :?
