I bought some Boswell's, well just a sample, a couple of months ago and felt it to be too caustic the time. Well, uh.... I had this air out in a sealed jar much larger than needed and well this shit is sublime now. Yea, could be the wine speaking but I don't think so. Its a smooth flavorful smoke now, one I shall remember at least until my next bottle.

I've had a tin or two of Northwoods, and liked it.

What makes it a 'crossover'?
Just a term given to aromatic Englishes. They are usually a hybrid of a typical aromatic base blend (mild burley and/or sweetened Cavendish), with an English. In other words, usually an aromatic with Latakia. I haven’t had Northwoods, so I can’t say whether it fits that description or not. ?‍♂️

Yes, their customer service is really exceptional. I love Peretti but can't say the same about them.
Placed my first order with Peretti and it has been 4 days with no update other than the original "we got your order and he is a copy of it for your information" e-mail. I'm not concerned about it and I'm sure they had a lot of orders due to the release of their Thanksgiving Day blend, but the lack of any status or communication is a different approach these days.

I've had Northwoods and enjoyed it quite a bit. I considered it to be a mild English, not an aromatic. It may be a bit sweeter than traditional English blends, but I didn't pick out any toppings when I had it. Guess I'll have to revisit it (if my friend has any left) and pay closer attention.

I’ve had inconsistent experiences with Northwoods.

I’ve ordered it three times. First time was a small 2oz bag, I loved it, so I purchased a larger 8oz next time. That batch smelled and tasted like it had a bottle of perfume spilled on it, had to chuck it.

Time went by and I decided to give it another try, 2oz, and it was fantastic.

Many folks compare it to Frog Morton or Frog Morton Cellar. It used to use McClelland in the blend, but no more. Still, when it’s good, it does make a respectable replacement.
