I purchased a gas station pouch of SWRA tonight that was dry as a bone. It fired right up, but seemed to want to burn hot and was a little harsh around the edges.

Is the experience significantly improved by purchasing one of the sealed tins that doesn’t dry out or has been potentially sitting wrapped on a shelf for an extended time? Both pouches of SWRA I’ve tried have been subpar in my book compared with a B&M blend or just about anything out of a tin.

For SWRA to be dry in the pouch I would say the seal had been broken quite some time ago. If you order a pouch from one of the online vendors that sponsor this site you will get a fresh pouch for sure.
I found a similar (but preferred) taste profile in the Peter Stokkebye luxury twist flake. Cheap in bulk too.
