I recently purchased a Dr. Grabow Omega and I like the pipe, but I hate the P-lip stem. I just can't get it to sit in my teeth comfortably. I thought I might be able to buy a new stem with a flat button and replace the P-lip, since it is a military type stem with a taper where it enters the shank. Is that doable? Any other suggestions? And, can you recommend a seller?
One last question. On the heel of this Omega is a carving of a tobacco leaf, are all Omegas like this, or did they try to hide a flaw in the wood?
Thanks for your help.

I'd go for the pipe repair replacement stem for $24, if the pipe is otherwise a good smoke. I have

one P-Lip (Pete Rhodesian Killarney), and I smoke it just fine, but wouldn't knowingly buy another.

It gives that one pipe a separate "personality." It's just a little more bit than I like ordinarily.

Thanks guys. I'll give it some time, and smoke a bowl or two, to think it over. The Omega only cost $26, so spending another $24 seems a bit much (pun intended). Time will provide an answer.

I have/had now, a beautiful Sav. pot with a P-lip Cumberland stem. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I tried to smoke it a dozen times and couldn't get past the P-lip. Last week, I used a flat file and filed the P-lip off as far as the hole in the stem, basicly, I turned it into a fish tail, and now I can smoke it comfortably. I am quite pleased with it. Took about a half hour to convert it.

I've considered doing this myself, now I have confirmation. I was restoring an estate pipe yesterday, while buffing up the stem, I thought of filing the P-lip. I'll take the stem into my workshop and give it a go.
Thanks mate.

It took me about 5 minutes to get use to a Peterson P-lip. I really like it, not sure about any other brand of P-lip.
