To be honest this is an extremely hard question, and you don’t have to answer (Although there is a major hint in the paragraphs) I was excited though to see these paragraphs from a modern Classic written many years ago, which I missed reading in the youth, so I am getting acquired now. In case you really want to attempt, I have added a hint.

This is currently being remade as a British TV show, and was aired recently in PBS. The first season is available as a limited series in Amazon Prime

He writes that when he was drafted in WW2 they pulled one of his teeth, he thought unnecessarily, and it was one he used to hold his pipe. Ticked him off, but he had no say.

His son wrote a good biography of him.

Herriot's books are great. There are 5 in the US. They generally combined two of the British releases and gave the compilation a new title in the US. That's why you'll see different titles in the UK, but they're the same books.

All true stories, either from his practice or others he knew. He only had to make up a few stories for the cat book released in the US, because they didn't do much small animal work back then.

I have the older tv series on dvd but haven't seen the new one. Is the new one true to the books?

The mention of 'Caesarians on cows' was a major clue!
Yes. That’s why I stated, there is a major hint in the paragraphs.

I am very impressed that @HawkeyeLinus identified the correct book.

Finally, I have watched the old series earlier and liked it quite a lot. I somewhat enjoyed the new series, because of the inherent interest in the books, but I think the treatment is overtly dramatic, introduces plots which are not in the books, and would probably give a 1/10

I'm very impressed you could identify which book!

Is the new tv series true to the books?

How would you compare it to the old series, if you've seen that?
It isn't true to the books but doesn't seem to be its intention, so that could be frustrating for some. IMO, this seems more centered on the central characters vs. more of the life/struggles/interactions of the whole community. Old series had more characters defined, more individual stories told and I suppose the actors were so well known in the roles it's a challenge to stand up to that.

It looks great and is well done and we enjoy it, though.

I very much enjoyed all of the works by Herriot! You will, I suspect find all of them wonderful as you work through them!

The various film/television adaptations are good….. but you will find a lot MORE to like in the actual books too!!!!

Yes. I read All Creatures Great and Small during my youth, and that in turn made me watch the TV adaptations. Of course the book would be better.

This time I plan to read all 4, but started from book 4 (The Lord God Made Them All) as that’s the order Amazon and EBay are sending the volumes in
