Suggestions for Tobacco

I'm going to be ordering a Dr. Grabow pipe here soon and plan on ordering some tobacco tins as well. I like fruity/spicy tobaccos. Although I'm sure it has been discussed, can you guys throw out some tins I should look into ordering as well?

I probably can't offer too many suggestions, as I haven't had much variety in my pipe smoking career, but let these gentlemen know what you've tried and liked, and what you've tried and didn't like. There are probably hundreds of blends that are "fruity" and hundreds more that are "spicy". Right off the bat I can tell you that anything with Perique in it will have a bit of "spice" to it. That being said, there is a multitude of tobaccos with Perique in them.

Hm. Might I suggest "Beverwyck" from the Hearth and Home series? The perique in there, along with some latakia, might give you what you want.
And may I humbly suggest that you can do better than a Grabow for the same money? Look around in here. Buy the best pipes - and tobacco - you can afford!

+1 w/Peterson's UF, also maybe try some Escudo (IMHO~I get the nice fruit (subtle fruit w/nice spice there for sure)also some of GL Pease's Haddo's Delight ::

I always found Louisiana Red had some nice citrus notes along with a bit of kick from the Perique. Also you might also check out the Newminster Superior Round Slices. I don't think of it as spicy, but it might be of a little interest to you.

I won't suggest specific tobaccos for you. But do try several types.
1. Aromatics

2. Burley blends.

3. Latakia blends.

4. Virginias and Virginia/Perique blends.
If you are new to pipe smoking keep in mind that your tastes will likely change and develop over time.

I've never tried their english blends. I can say that their aromatics are all very high quality. If you have not tried any, I highly recommend you give a tin of Romanza a chance.

I think Orlik Golden Sliced would fit what you're looking for. It has a little citrus flavor to it, and some spiciness from the Perique. I've only smoked this blend in a cob though. I'm not sure how it tastes in a briar or pearwood pipe.
And I also suggest checking into some other pipes in that same price range. I have a couple of Bjarnes that I got for around fifty dollars or so new, and they are excellent smokers. Just a suggestion.

I like fruity/spicy tobaccos.

If you're new and starting with aromatics, I would suggest Newminster French Champagne. It's inexpensive but tastes excellent - and in fact I would describe it exactly as "fruity and spicy".

I would suggest that you buy bulk tobacco whenever possible in 1 oz lots until you decide on your tastes. Smokingpipes gives wonderful descriptions of all of their tobaccos, and their prices are good. Store your tobacco in clean, 1/2 pint mason jars, well labeled and you're good to go. Enjoy the adventure!

As theSmokingdragon recommended, Haddo's Delight is a sure-fire bet, as well as the related flavor of Pease's Cairo.

I also think jah76's post is on track too.
Other blends well worth investigating are McClelland Beacon, Pebblecut, and St James Woods; and from 4noggins', Prairie Wind.
Note that most of the recommendations that satisfy your request will be essentially Virginia and Va./Perique blends.

I figured I would have gotten torn apart for asking that question since it's basic and I'm sure it's been asked a lot before. You guys are great and I will be probably ordering my first pipe (besides my corn cob) and some tobacco today. Thanks again guys.

If you are going to order from Smokingpipes.com, I would recommend getting a tin of the Capstan Blue Flake, it is a very tasty blend.

Torn apart? Naw... Pipe Smoking is an "experience", and everyone's experience is a bit different. Everyone has a bit of a different take on it. It is good to get a broad overview sometimes. BTW I hated the C&D Canal Boat, but if burley is what you want it had plenty.
