Suggestions for Cleaning an Oom Paul.

I have a Sevinelli Green Alligator Oom/Paul pipe. I'm finding that the pipe cleaner is not making the bend. What suggestions do you have for cleaning?

A small bend of the tip in the end being inserted. Then slowly twist the cleaner while pushing in gently. The tip, hopefully, screw forward into the chamber.

I slightly bend the pipe cleaner… sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. The more you do it, the easier it is to find correct angle/bend.

gentle twisting does amazing things. In fact it gets to a point where you don't have to think about it.

Yup. Only way it works for me, though, if your Hungarian/Oom Paul is a Peterson pub pipe, you can take the stem out to clean things up at any point.

Hopefully on your case it’s because of the bend in the airway,

I'm giving a newly arrived estate pipe (bent billiard) a deep clean.

Despite looking great on the outside, alcohol-dipped cleaners came out black. It also did not pass a cleaner.

Cotton ball in the bowl (after cleaning with several moist twisted paper towels) and filled with alcohol to soak yesterday afternoon. This morning a wad of inspissated was dislodged out of the end of the shank. Cleaner passes now with a slight bend at the tip and minimal jiggling. Needed another dozen alcohol-soaked cleaners before the shank was clean enough.

It does not matter how clean the pipe looks on the outside. The shank and mortise can still be hiding years of built up crud.

I find pre-bending the pipe cleaner to roughly match the bend in the stem to be helpful, sometimes I'll need to twist the cleaner while inserting. I've one OOM Paul that I need to pass a pipe cleaner through the stem from the tenon side vice the mouthpiece side.

Work the pipe cleaner through the tip. I use a tapered with good effect. Disassemble the stem first and clean the two parts separately.

I may be unique but I clean after every smoke having let sit for 1 hour to cool.
