To answer your other question, I, amongst several other pipe-smokers here (and a goodly chunk of Europe), smoke Latakia or Oriental blends all day with no issues. I found that Virginia or Burley forward blends made me crave a cigarette due to the flavour profile; however Virginia/Perique blends kill any cravings I may have.
Good blends that will satisfy your cravings on the "English/Balkan" side of things include Dunhill Early Morning Pipe and Nightcap, Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding, and Hearth and Home Black House amongst others. If you want to try a very Latakia forward blend with an intense nicotine kick, check out Captain Earles Ten Russians, by Hermit Tobacco Works, but be warned, it has a very intense flavour.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I've tried Peterson Irish flake, it is quite strong but I actually thought of it as being all bombast and no subtlety of flavor. Since writing this post, I've tried Dunhill Royal Yacht and Escudo and liked them both.
Samual Gawith is a brand I keep hearing about, but my main on-line dealer doesn't carry it. After I've tried all the new baccies my dealer has that have been suggested here and elswhere, my plan is to try that bracken and 1792--from somewhere.
More important than any other factor in making the transiton from cigarettes to the pipe, I think, is not nicotine content, but just finding pipes and tobaccos you enjoy smoking. VaPer's & Orientals like PS Proper English are some that I enjoy a lot even though they may not be the most high nic.
I've tried Dunhill Early Morning, I think it's over-rated. But if other people like it, that's fine.

You know, you might try Sterlings 1776 Old Dominion. It had a black cherry note, but it is a strong pure Virginia. Has quite a nic hit.

Gawith and Hoggarth Dark Birdseye, Samuel Gawith 1792, G.l. Pease Haddos Delight and Esoterica Dorchester all come to mind when I think of tobaccos that I have had to put down mid way through a small bowl due to nicotine content. Not that they are available today, but some of the Dunhill's used to really pack a punch too. Durbar, Three Year Matured and Night Cap used to give me a good punch in the head. Not enough to put the bowl down, but a punch to the head none the less. I haven't tried the new Dunhills yet so I can't speak for today's Nightcap, but Nightcap and London Mixture also used to pack a nice punch.

Ps: I can get 1792 any time of any day, but I have to pay $20 - $23.00 for it. I will be happy to send you some if you dare pay the price.

I made the same transition from cigs, and was also drawn to full flavored VAs.
I started out with Prince Albert. It would give me a "cigarette like" buzz, but is primarily Burley. For something a little sweet try Erinmore Mixture/ Flake.
Nic hit on the below kind of depends on how you smoke them, and the size of the bowl. Not all powerhouses but you will likely enjoy the flavors:

Mac Baren Navy Flake

Escudo Navy Deluxe - good Nic

Esoterica Dunbar

Gawith and Hoggarth Brown Irish XXX (rope) - don't drive while smoking

Benjamin Heartwell Signature Blend (silver lettering on tin)
I did not like most aromatic blends at first.... I am easing back into a few light aros now that I am learning how to enjoy the tobaccos more. It takes a while for your nicotine cravings to subside. When you first quit cigs and are looking to pipes as a substitute I believe you may have a tendency to smoke a pipe a little hot. This will subside with practice, and as your taste buds come back to life the tobaccos will really come to life. Virginias VAPERS Balkan and English blends are my favorites.
I am also able to smoke good cigars now without turning green:) Cigars can deliver nicotine explosions and are tasty. IMO pipes have so many possibilities for the palette that cigars do not deliver, but there are some great cigars out there worth trying as well.
Pipes and cigars put cigs to shame.

I'm smoking some Escudo now and was just reminded of how well balanced and satisfying it is. For a little change up Penzance has some Latakia in it. Others will say it is mild (I like heavy N), but Penzance has actually givin me hiccups. Perhaps age has something to do with it. The first and only tin I have ever opened was covered in white stuff. I have no idea what all is in Penzance but reminds me a a VAPER w/ Latakia. It has a spicy tinge in the nostrils and delivers the goods for me. Tastes just like Dunbar w/ Latakia to me.

Thanks for the replies on this thread. I am looking for low N effect tobacco. Now I know which to avoid. I am surprised about EMP since it is VA Oriental. I have 4 tins here. I will have to test it again.
