Tuesday I went to get some eye glasses.DMV folks say that I need them to drive.Pretty simple I thought..No Way..After two hours of drops in my eyes and looking in machines with blinding lights I was told to come back today for more tests because I could have the onset of Glaucoma. After two more hours of drops in my eyes, looking in machines, more blinding lights in my eyes I was told that everything is OK.There is nothing wromg with my eyes. They are actualy normal.Except for needing glasses so I can read that machine at the DMV office. Now I'm wondering if I was put through all of this just so someone could get more money from the insurance company.I'm very sensitive when it comes to my eyes.I don't like anyone touching them. This has been an extremely stressful experience that I don't soon want to repeat.

Sorry to hear that. I've gone through that several times and for the last 5 years they say "You have the onset of glaucoma". But I do trust my eye doctor (since the whole family has been going to the same one for 10 years) and I don't think she's doing it to rip anyone off. And yeah.. I am sensitive about my eyes... no contacts for me.. no way Jose !
So, have a bowl and relax. That works for me. :puffy:

Ugh, I feel your pain! I will literally argue with my eye doctor for weeks to get out of the drops and the air gun.
"I had that done last year and you said every OTHER year, so this year I get a free pass. Go check your records."
"Oh, really, I talked you out of it last year? Well, I don't have anyone to drive me home today so you can't dialate them today. I'll come back next week. Just write the prescription."
My eyes are so bad that if I don't have my contacts in and I hold my hand out in front of me it disappears. I hate glasses because I don't have any sort of peripheral vision. I inherited my daddy's pretty blue eyes but unfortunately they aren't in proper working condition.
Ah shit, man, you just reminded me. I only have one pair of contacts left before I have to go back! CRAP!

Last summer, my ninety year-old grandfather underwent "routine" laser surgery to have a very minor cataract removed from his left eye. Unfortunately, something went wrong, and somehow his lense shattered. This resulted in a follow-up surgery which involved slicing into the humor to remove the fragments of the shattered lense, and insert an artificial lense. Six months of four different anti-microbial drops three times a day, and weekly appointments with an eye doctor located 45 minutes from home; followed by montly checkups at same eye doctor for the past three months and he still has no vision in the left eye.

Of course, at that age (and with a diminishing mental capacity), any invasive surgery and break in routine seems to accelerate the degeneration process, particularly mentally; leaving one to wonder if it wouldn't have been best to simply leave the cataract alone in the first place. We certainly are not going to undergo the surgery on the right eye, and risk losing all vison. Sometimes I think docs get so focused on fixing perceived illnesses that they forget about the patient.
