Maybe others have discovered this before. I notice that at the end of a bowl of VA especially a flake I get a distinct red wine flavor. Usually at this point in a bowl I experience that ashy taste and I dump it out. Could VA ash contribute to the red wine flavor? I think it does. I enjoy it though.
Your thoughts.

I have experienced a flavor similar to what you describe. I usually get it towards the bottom of a big bowled pipe that I have folded and stuffed with a flake VA.

My thoughts are that you are a Wine-O.
I just taste sweet goodness. What particular blend made you think this crazy thought? :D

I find that when I smoke some Haddos Delight, the first two lights and the first puffs I take have a pretty stout sort of wine flavor. Not sure what makes it taste that way but I do know that combined with the wheat like, grassy sweetness and black pepper tingle, its a damn good smoke. Not sure I have encountered another VA that has that taste, at least not yet anyway.

I haven't noticed the wine-like flavor at the end of a bowl; but F&T's Vintage Flake and

Solani 633 generate a subtle wine-like taste during the smoke.

You're not nuts, I get a red wine like flavour at the end of a bowl of Virginia or Virginia/perique. Never really thought to take notice of which tobaccos produce this flavour or why, but I do notice it.

haha, ohin I knew you'd comment on this topic.
By the way guys... last night Peterson Irish Flake kicked my butt yet again. I'm always so careful to just pack a little bit, but it gets me almost every time. It's way to good not to smoke though.

My palet is not very sophisticated, but when I tried some McClelland Christmas Cheer 2008 in a new pipe last Christmas, I noticed a nice flavor that I had never experienced with a Virginia tobacco before. Thanks for defining it, it is a bit like red wine.
