A beer store near me carries some pouched pipe tobacco and a few other offerings.

Currently, they have two Stokkebye shag blends: Norwegian and Amsterdam. The descriptions sound interesting, with a mix of fire cured Kentucky and Virginia for Amsterdam and Virginia, Burley and Orientals for the Norwegian.

Typically, these would be for rolling you own. However, I generally enjoy cannonballs of shag cut. Are they worth picking up for a pipe (since I have seemingly left cigarettes behind)?

There are (or were) four blends that were sold in the pouches as RYO and also as bulk with a slightly less fine shag cut for pipes. As mentioned above they are crossover blends but the pouched version can be smoked in a pipe with proper packing technique. I believe they stopped selling the Amsterdam in bulk pipe cut but still offer it in pouches. I quite liked them either as-is or as blending tobacco.
