So, if you have an obsolete / out of production / aged pipe, like Dr. Grabow, Kaywoodie, Chacom, Lee, etc. do you prefer with or without the stinger? Personally, I don't care either way. IMHO Does not seem to affect the smoke at all.
Note: not all pipes by these manufacturers had stingers - just certain lines. ?

I have 30+ Pipe by Lee pipes. About half have the original stingers. To date I’ve been keeping them intact and find that they smoke most non-aromatic/wet blends great with the stinger. There’s one exception…the sole Oom Paul gurgles with all but the driest tobaccos.

There are others that toss the stingers, so YMMV.

I think the general feeling is that stingers are kind of a gimmick from a past age. I have a new NOS pipe coming my way with a stinger in it. I don't have any others with a stinger or condenser or anything like that. I'm curious to see what difference it makes, if any.

Patent era Sasieni pipes had thread in stingers. I've found if removed, the draw is far too open for my liking, so, those stay in place if they came with the pipe.

Same for some Peterson's with the screw-in "Chimney", that is part of their System pipe. Those were designed to be used with the chimney in place.

If they really worked, we’d likely still have them in most pipes today. I keep mine intact purely for the history.
