Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.
I've come in search of help as I have a problem stem.

Up until last night it was just a mis-aligned stem and re=alignment was on the list of things to do, but after an involuntary muscle spasm and some cursing a new problem has arisen.
(a)This is the stem fitted with the top corner on both the shank and stem aligned. As you will notice it is out of whack.

(b)This is the chip that has stopped me from enjoying probably one of my best smokers.

So guys & gals if you have any suggestions on how to fix this on the cheap. Unfortunately funds reserved for pipe repair have been diverted to food & shelter this month.
Peace out.

Dave

The really cheap solution is probably just a rubber softee bit. As far as the alignment. I can't really tell how it connects to the shank for the pictures, so I can't help too much on that yet.

For the stem to connect to the shank there is a small cylindrical tube that is used as a connecting rod (holes in both the stem and shank)

I would use the rubber softie bit as jgriff suggested for the chip.

As far as the alignment goes, it is hard to tell from the photo you have provided.

I would think that tightening the stem would help with the problem.

You can try clear nail polish on the cylindrical tube, then aligning it should be easier.

Just a guess on my part.

Keep us updated and good luck.

What kind of pipe is this? Got pics of the "rod", mortise(hole in the shank)? I'd almost bet someone has done a homemade repair on this pipe, unless it's a Jobey or Duncan Hill,Carey etc.
