I have a meerschaum and the stem screws on. But to get it tight*, it rotates too far and the bit is sideways. I cant seem to get it any other way, no matter how I adjust the screw insert. The stem is loose* if I keep it oriented the right direction.
* by tight above, I mean snug, not really tight, just so the stem doesn't move back and forth. I'm afraid in the long run it'll damage the threads if I handle it with the stem loose like that.

I had an old Konceck Meer that did that, I cut a thin gasket made from a wine cork, I could snug it up without breaking the stem, wine cork, razor blade and a little shaveing of the cork and you got it.

Serk, I misunderstood you I thought you had male threads going into a female shank, what I see is a push tendon? Am I looking at it right? If it doesn"t screw on you just twist it till its straight. Am I looking at it right?

Ok did a larger view , looks like threads on tendon, make gasket, screw it on tendon, thickness you want and pipe will pull up on gasket letting you straighten the stem.

Bought a nifty Kaywoodie recently with screw on stem that doesn't quite end up squarely. It's not sideways like

this one, just at a 20 degree (or so) angle. I thought it over. The female end could be broken out of the shank

and moved, and cinched back in place. Or I could mail it back to Kaywoodie and ask them to repair or replace.

But I decided since it sits in my mouth at a reasonable angle, I'll go with it. Not what I would design, but

fine and smokeable, and not noticeable to me, or likely to others, when it's in my mouth. I just won't smoke with

someone hyper-observant like Sherlock Holmes.

Dr. Grabows and Kaywoodies (I think) were mostly "adjustomatics" meant to be overturned to line up. I doubt that solves the meer problem though, those worked because the threaded tenon simply moved a bit out of the shank when overturned.

Is the tenon, that is, the threaded part, made of nylon? If so you can probably rotate the whole stem or just the threaded tenon 360º

The Old Cajun's fix is the most practical if you're afraid to overclock that stem; but since it really

should be repaired by a professional, whaddya got to lose now?

Need better pix of all the pipe parts before I can tell what's wrong. It seems like you can adjust the plastic mouthpiece.

Personally, I'd torque that plastic part all the way around. If that breaks it, then send it off for the inevitable repair.

Try screwing the shank back into the bowl, grasp the shank in one hand so it will NOT turn and try to turn the STEM-the mouthpiece. If that doesn't work I'd send it in for repair.
