Stanwell 24 M vs. 70 M

I was looking at each model on the Bay last night. I couldn't find much in the way of a Google search on the difference(if any) in bowl sizes of these pipes. To me the only difference I can see is the 24 M has an all briar shank where as the 70 M has a vulcanite tip where the stem meets. Anyone know of any other differences or advantage one has over the other? How they smoke?

To bring up an old subject. My 70M smokes great. It is my go to pipe. One thing that was annoying was to get the vulcanite parts nice and black on a 70M instead of a 24. I still don't know the exact difference save the 24 is pretty and a 70M is looks more functional.

I have 2 one smooth and one rusticated and I agree they are great little smokers. The old cajun

That is a nice pipe. I have a couple of Edwards with that type of mount, and I agree, it it tough to get the vulcanite attached to the shank to shine. I have been using the compound that Walker Briar works sells to get the shine back. As vast as my pipe collection is, I have yet to acquire a Stanwell. I might have to find a 70m.

sorry i never saw this. my favorite pipe is a stanwell. i have 2 - both shape 179. the one i love most is a deluxe or legend finish. the other is partially rusticated and although i like smoking it too, it whistles. oddly enough my only other rusticated pipe (a sav 207) also whistles. i have no idea why. i guess they're just lower quality pipes.

I have been on the hunt for a stanwell HCA #2 polished without much luck but I could see myself puffing on either of those pipes.

Cool! Yeah, I'm attempting to collect each variation in the Stanwell M-series, but I don't have either a 70M nor a 24M as of yet. I'm kicking myself bigtime because I missed out on this Silver S which has some droolingly gorgeous birds-eye!!!
I would say that the 24M is a little more hard-to-find.
Another interpretation, way outta my price range, is this incredible pipe!!!

As for the vulcanite, I do very well with the MicroMesh pads, you can get a "hobby" kit for under $20 and they work a charm, go thru the finer grits then polish with Flitz then give a good flannel polish then slap some Obsidian Stem Oil onnit and all is well in the world!
But I must say, i do prefer the later-style lucite stems, the vintage vulcanite ones are a bit too thin on the button for my preferences and add in the hassle of upkeep, it's a bit of a chore.

That is a very pleasing shape. I'm putting it on my list for future pipe purchases. I'm guessing the shape was designed by Sixten Ivarsson or Jess Chonowitsch or even Nanna Ivarsson.
