I know some of you guys smoke alot of Squadron Leader. I do have this issue with tounge bite and therefore am very fussy what I smoke. I mix many of my Virginia's with Drum to reduce this problem. I have read the reviews on Squadron Leader over and over again and cannot find much issue with tounge bite. Is this correct?

I smoke a ton of SL, have never had any bite and I push up

on it from time to time ;-) as always the key to having a nice

smooth, cool and flavored smoke is proper moisture control,

which seems to be different from blend to blend and also times

of year ;-)
BTW; if you haven't tried Dunhill's EMP, another great one with

orientals up front and in your face :)
Hope that helps

+1 for Squadron Leader. One of my regulars and just a great classic English blend.

Never had an issue with any Gawith blend. I've been smoking Skiff lately and really enjoy it as well as SL. My fave is 1792, when I can find it.

SL is a nice blend. Haven't had any in a while, due to problems with availability.
English blends tend not to be as bite-y as Virginias - sugar content is not as high. I would suggest, however,if you are having lots of problems with tongue bite, you might want to look at your packing or smoking techniques. :puffy:

Ya I hear ya Jud, and while appreciated, it has been this way for 16 yrs. Very sensitive to certain types of baccy. Guess I am just lucky, lol. I don't have much trouble with English blends. I just placed an order for an 8oz bag so I hope its a good one.

Any blend that gives me tongue bite is out-a-here. Once your tongue is burnt, then nothing tastes good after that.
But, I have discovered the moisture in the tobacco has a lot to do with it. I always allow it to dry out some before I discard the mixture to the round file. I hate throwing money in the trash. I let it set for a month or so, then smoke some more, some do change for the better, some get worse. It's a gamble.

Never noticed it biting much. I dry it out for a half hour or more depending on age of the tin, humidity and what not. I also sip at everything that I smoke so I don't get bitten by much unless I push it.

From time to time I'll dedicate a pipe to a certain blend or type. My Sasieni estate bulldog now get's only SL. Just seems right.
(I have given over a large Savinelli author to VaPer use, now that I've "discovered" Escudo.)
