Every Spring about this time millions of Ramps pop up on our property. They sell for $6/lb at our local grocery store. They just rot away here. A few friends grab a few and my wife and I eat a few. We also get tons of chives.....and skunk cabbage. :)
Pretty much every bit of green in these pictures are ramps. And they are only just getting started. And in a month, they will be long gone.

And Newts...first of the year.

And little baby deer around.

80 something here in Tennessee today. High in the 60s tomorrow.

The spring onions are gone, having either been mowed or just died out. Lightning bugs are starting to come out, and I've got blueberry flowers and baby peaches on my bushes already. The strawberries are covered in flowers, and I'm about to weed them and the shallots for the 3rd time this spring.

The local farmers haven't put in their corn yet and I'm about to have the kids help prep the summer beds. I've bought all my maters and peppers, but will still do some Mexican cherry tomatoes from seed. I'm still probably a month away from planting melons, sunflowers, pickles, squash, cowpeas and basil.

Happy spring, all

Edit: I hit send and the whippoorwill started up across the hay field.

I was out working a side job on the west side of the central valley here in California last Thursday, and the white onions are nearly ready to come out of the ground...86°F here today...

I love ramps, the season is just getting started for em in Ohio right about now. Got some on a friends property in the woods that always produces a good bunch. Makes a good pesto.

The snow just melted here in Upstate NY. There still is some snow in the hills. And it's supposed to snow for the next couple days. Our Spring usually kicks in about mid May.....and ends in late Sept.

Yep, these just broke through in the last couple days. They will completely take over about 30 acres around our house. Outside of that area, I've never seen a single ramp plant.

Definitely, the mosquitos are out and the brown bats are circling catching their dinner too.
No mosquitos here yet. They usually aren't very bad around here. Even at night they are rarely an issue. We do have a lot of brown bats. They keep the bugs controlled.

I love ramps too, but once a year is all that I can handle of them. At least the bugs will leave you alone for the next three days after easting them, as well as anyone downwind, ha ha.
Yep, they come up and die off within a month. The first week they are too small, and after 2 weeks they are too oniony and soft.
So you get 1 week of peak eating.
Unless you put them in the refrigerator, then you get an extra few days. To finiky and fragile for me to deal with more than once or twice a year.
