I’ve just acquired 2 Speaker Preedy pipes but can’t seem to find out much about the maker. I’ve seen that Preedy was a tobacconist from the Midlands U.K. and he used to get pipes made from other pipe-makers that he put his name to, but that’s about it.

I saw the thread on here about the Preedy Straight Grain and a link to Barling but that’s all I can find. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Cheers
NMc

P.S. I do have the shape numbers. Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum.

From what I can tell Preedy introduced the Speaker pipe between 1936 and 1938, and continued listing it in trade directories at least until the mid 1970s.

Identifying the maker on a tobacconist pipe is often if not almost always a long shot. If you really want to try post photos of the pipes including all nomenclature and good images of the tenon and bit.

Comoy had a Speaker model as well (but in neither case the name was trademarked) so they’re at least a theoretical possibility. If it’s Comoy the shape numbers will tell you since they didn’t generally bother to change them on private label pipes.

This saves me posting the article on Preedy that @jguss sent to me.
