It's basically comparing apples to oranges...

Mississippi River is a Virginia blend with some Orientals, a touch of Latakia and Perique. It's often listed as an English blend, but it's dominated by Virginia's.

Plum Pudding is a Balkan blend with your standard Latakia, Oriental/Turkish, Perique, Virginia, with the addition of Cavendish and black Cavendish.

Both are favorites of mine. I have a pipe dedicated for Mississippi River, not because it ghosts, but because it smokes great in that pipe. If I had to pick one over the other, I'd take Mississippi River. That's my preference though.

Plum Pudding SR was my first love. I’m ashamed to admit just how much SPC Plum Pudding I own in both the pedestrian and the ostensibly fancier version. I was able to gain a bit of control by the time the flake version came around, so I think I only have a few pounds of that. Unfortunately, my collection of Plum Pudding iterations handily puts all other blends I have to shame in regard to volume alone.

While I like Mississippi River, as well, I’d agree with @metalheadycigarguy in that it’s not necessarily an easy comparison because, to my palate, they’re quite different. I also only own two tins of the Mississippi River for whatever that’s worth. YMMV, but I’d say Plum Pudding hands down.

Interesting results...
To my palate, Mississippi River is a bit smoother and has a bit more sweetness than PP. I enjoy both, but prefer MR. On a side note, my palate is not overly well developed, as I find the two to be different, but not overly so.
Both fine smokes.
