I opt for the sitewide sales that usually come about in proximity to major holidays. I find those to be better than the sales off of individual blenders. For example, the 25% off Ashton blends sale that happened last month seemed to be relative to the MSRP, rather than SP's usual price. Compared to the prices of these blends after the sale, I'd have only been saving about 60 cents per tin, and that's just not enough to go TAD crazy over. Whereas a 10% or 15% off sitewide is most definitely all the excuse I need to go hog wild! These appear to be where the really good savings are.

Just my two cents based on patterns I have observed over the past couple of years.

Oh one of the ways the pick what to put on sale is by looking at my most recent order and seeing what i spent my monies on :). Honestly the one sale i did take advantage of was on estate pipes. And the rattray old perth is a great pipe :)

never hurts to call customer service and ask about upcoming sales they will never give you exact dates but will put you in the ball park
