You really do some carving on these briars. The birdseye on the blue stain pipe is something to behold. Very distinctive pipes.

I used Fiebings USMC black always, to accent the grain, then their Navy Blue, on the 2 blue pipes above. thanks for the kind words, I have been doing mostly Churchwardens this month I had an order of 18 + 2 Pokers, to my surprise people like the style of my pipes and the look is different from most handcrafted pipes, I don't really worry about making very many standard shapes, my goal is to keep straight lines straight and curved lines curved, sounds easy enough right? I just try to make them first of all great smokers, dead center bottom draft in the bowl, I find this makes them better smokers than center shaft side bottom of the bowl, then of course I want them to be pretty with a nice grain, or a manly tree bark type rustication that a lot of guys like, I have had a lot of advice from John Hines, Tim West, Jose Ruiz and several others. The pipe community is an awesome thing and it seems like most people people want to help make you better. I approach pipe making as I did my music, I want to be somewhat original with my own style of pipe making, I had a real job for 28 years so this needs to be fun and if people like them and buy them that's a bonus, I try to keep them under $100 with most around $69, but if they don't sell, I can always use another good pipe. I started out with pre bored kits, but since I started drilling my own it has given me more versatility.

Thank you very much for your answers, even those about sanding on the other thread. I am in a similar situation after a 28 years job and I also like to follow my way with original shapes. Unfortunately, here in Italy, people on the forums prefer just criticize and make joke if somebody produce something different from Dunhill and classical shapes. If I'll post my works you will understand.

Sir, I really appreciate all three pipes. Each has a great appeal. I especially was impressed with the cloverleaf on the side of the #2 pipe. The design is really charming and adds great warmth and appeal and the pipes design is awesome. My great grandfather would have loved it as well. I will PM you about a commission.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, Okiscout, I would be proud to make a pipe for you, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at my pricing, i'm not saying you shouldn't pay $200- $300 for a pipe if that is what one desires, but I keep all my pipes under $100, most around $69, as I feel privileged and honored to think that someone may pass one of my pipes down to a son or grandson someday, it's as if part of me is becoming part of the buyers family. There is actually 4 pipes posted here, the blue ones are different. I look forward to hearing from you and anyone who would like a great smoking pipe.

Thanks Booker, I noticed the grain on pipe #1 so I did the rustication and tried to match those lines, some people don't realize the top of the bowl is smooth as is the shank.

I LOVE the churchwarden with the clover / shamrock carving :)
I've been considering trying my hand at carving, and I have a good friend who is an excellent woodburner, and if I carve a few pipes, I'll work with him to burn some images into them, so I appreciate seeing what's possible. Again, looks fantastic!
