I've been warned off using these, as it's easy to split a tenon.
They are very useful but not necessary in most cases, usually just heating up a tenon will restore it back to it’s normal size (depends on the material used though).I've been warned off using these, as it's easy to split a tenon.
6-8 seconds of steam might solve the problem to re-hydrate the wood, when you want to use them.the large pipe has travelled from Ukraine to smoking pipes, to me back to Ukraine to get bigger stem , and same issues persist , the wood has shrunk or the relative humidity of northern WI is different than Kiev . The second pipe I bought from rodrigo at auction , same problem within a year .
They certainly can.I've been warned off using these, as it's easy to split a tenon.
Or just smoking them can have a dramatic effect on the tightness of the stem.6-8 seconds of steam might solve the problem to re-hydrate the wood, when you want to use them.
I tried beeswax , not enough to get a gripVery little surface for the stem to adhere to, and the stummel looks heavy. Would bees wax be enough? Or some sticky substance.
