After a lifetime of having to deal with the public in various jobs I now limit my interaction outside my circle of friends (on and off line) rather severely . I enjoy my personal time.

Just happened to see this on Yahoo News today. I was going to rant about how pathetic kids have become but then I realized the first thing I did was log on here and post what I saw. I'm an idiot.

I think it was a car company that recently put out a commercial similar to this topic. A teenage girl is sitting at the table with her laptop on facebook talking about how unsocial her parents are. All the while the parents are out in the car with friends heading off to go mountain biking. The only thing I think the technology boom and internet social networking does is take away from enjoying nature and going outside to have fun. I remember when I was little, in the early 90s, we'd typically only pick one day every few weeks during the summer to spend inside playing Nintendo. The rest of the time we were riding bikes, hiking, camping, playing sports, swimming etc. Even now I'm up at the ice rink playing hockey about three times a week and I head out for a swim once or twice a week (it's a little too hot to go hiking or walking around outside in Vegas in the summer). It's refreshing getting outside and getting active. I guess in a final analysis people in general socialize through the internet more because, there's so many more avenues to access the net. Most people I know are posting facebook updates or checking emails on their smart phones. Add to that laptops and tablets and its no wonder why people are so interconnected these days.

I tell you what, though. When I go on a real vacation, like Grand Cayman or Montana (A little town in the stix near the Canadian border) The cell phone and computer stay home in the gun safe. When I get out I'm out! No status updates no bullshit like that. And I don't broadcast where I am (mainly for security purposes).
Of course, when I come back, I post pix on line and gloat about my great time, particularly if I think my ex will find out. She hooked up with a complete waste of skin and spends her time nannying his 3 bastard children while he's at the bar getting rednecked and stupid with the waitresses.
Yeah I am that much of a dick, but only to those who have earned it.
