I think it was a car company that recently put out a commercial similar to this topic. A teenage girl is sitting at the table with her laptop on facebook talking about how unsocial her parents are. All the while the parents are out in the car with friends heading off to go mountain biking. The only thing I think the technology boom and internet social networking does is take away from enjoying nature and going outside to have fun. I remember when I was little, in the early 90s, we'd typically only pick one day every few weeks during the summer to spend inside playing Nintendo. The rest of the time we were riding bikes, hiking, camping, playing sports, swimming etc. Even now I'm up at the ice rink playing hockey about three times a week and I head out for a swim once or twice a week (it's a little too hot to go hiking or walking around outside in Vegas in the summer). It's refreshing getting outside and getting active. I guess in a final analysis people in general socialize through the internet more because, there's so many more avenues to access the net. Most people I know are posting facebook updates or checking emails on their smart phones. Add to that laptops and tablets and its no wonder why people are so interconnected these days.
