And decided just for fun to try something a bit different. 😎
I can’t take credit for this. I watched a guy on YouTube make one and decided to give it a try.
it does pass a Churchwarden pipe cleaner (as far as it will go) smoothly and without issues.
Just a fun, ‘I want to try this project.’ Bowl is Maple, stem is actually spruce. I tried making the stem from maple but try as I could, I had too much bit drift despite going very slowly.

Well, I’ll post pictures of the changes I made tomorrow when I take it out of my bending jig. I cut it down, boiled it in water for an hour and rebent it. 🙂

The spruce stem might affect the flavor, just fyi. You might like it if you like spruce beer!

Never had spruce beer.
Alll glue used is homemade using corn starch and water. My mom used to make it for my brother and sisters and I when we were cutting and pasting.

I’m having trouble getting the pics of my changes from Imgur to here for some reason.

I wanted to make a pipe out of maple, but I don’t have any hard maple available. I suppose I could order some… all the maple I have is of a soft variety.

I have some rock maple pipes made by Don Warren, and I love em’. The maple tends to “soften” the smoke and take the rough edges off - at least that’s my take.

Nice pipe!

Very nice pipe. I’ve always felt that part of the pipe smoking experience at least for me is enjoying the look of the pipe and the tactile feel of the pipe in my hand.
i don’t use deer antler for one reason: It has a very nasty, stench when you cut it and I can’t imagine mingling any part of that nasty odour in while smoking my pipe. I’ve harvested a lot of deer and moose over the decades and have literally had numerous racks of antlers sitting in the sun in my backyard for years. I’ve used antler to make scales (the handles) for my straight razor restoration work but I stopped using it because of the terrible smell when cutting the antler. I’ve used buffalo horn and faux buffalo horn but never deer antler.

Thanks for the comments. I honestly have not smoked the pipe more than probably a dozen times. It's more for display among the tons of other crap that I collect. That said, I have never had any hint of an odor from the antler.

Would love to see some of your work if you'd see clear to display it.
