I blame Johnny_Pipecleaner and his recent thread asking about everyone's favorite bulldog pipe. I didn't have a bulldog, never felt I needed a bulldog, and really never even looked closely at bulldogs until I was perusing his thread.
This past weekend we went on a short vacation to Ithaca NY and I did not bring a single pipe with me. Due to current laws and the expected poor weather, I didn't think I would have the opportunity or inclination. That said, I still sought out the local tobacco shop. (A real tobacco shop that doesn't cater to fancy glass pipes, hookahs, and electronic vaping apparatus.) Although the tobacco shop was well stocked with Cigars, the pipe dispay case had but a single pipe. Just one pipe. And it was a bulldog. A Peterson Bent Bulldog. I took this as a sign that I was meant to release this poor pipe from its long incarceration in plexiglass and allow it to perform it's intended function. I'm not sure how old it is as I can't find any other Petersons currently for sale with the engraved cross on the band. A new old stock 80S model Peterson. It smoked well for the first bowl which is not something I have come to expect from a new Peterson. (This is my third, the first two required some breaking in.) It also passes a pipecleaner. I have no doubt I overpaid, but at least the pipe has a happy home among its brethren where it will appreciated.
