So, I put in an order with Smokingpipes.com just to add on to the cellar. Nothing too special. Just some tins of Barbados Plantation (took advantage of the Sutliff sale they had going on), a few tins of Autumn Evening (Autumn is right around the corner, so one can't have too many tins of Autumn influenced tobacco), a bit more Blend For Cary Grant (this is a true favorite of mine. A great crossover aro/english blend for when I can't make up my mind), another 8 oz of Bullseye Flake to add to add to that stash, and of course a couple more tins of Black Frigate (ok... that's something special  ) Most of these blends, I just try to add a couple tins or two whenever I put in an order but I realized I hadn't done that very much on my last few orders, so I'm making up for a few. Barbados Plantation, I had none of.
As usual concerning Smokingpipes, the package arrived with everything wonderfully packed safely and secure in a reasonable amount of time. And as usual, for the most part I'm pleased with their service. Here's the photo of all my goods....

Such a lovely photo, if I do say so myself :D But there's one small issue... You see, when finalizing my order, in the comments section, I wrote "I dare someone to draw me a pipe smoking pirate." Alas, as you can see in the photo above, there is no pipe smoking pirate! I'm somewhat, slightly, a little bit, disappointed. Maybe even a tad bit, tiny bit, sort of kind of sad :( I was really looking forward to that pipe smoking pirate! Perhaps they drew it, but forgot to add it. The package said, Packed With Care By Josh. Now that name has popped up a few times on my packages and he's never failed to pack anything before.... Josh, did you forget my pirate? Nah. I don't think he did. He's never failed me before. Perhaps there's nobody with the artistic talent at Smokingpipes to draw me a pipe smoking pirate... a stick figure pirate would have sufficed. Or perhaps the "dare" wasn't good enough. Maybe, they only respond to the "double-dare." So next time I order, I will include a double-dare. And if that doesn't work, I will move on to the triple dare... and then perhaps the ever dreadful triple-dog- dare. Triple-dog-dares cannot be denied :nana:
Note: Anyone is free to try the double dare, triple dare, and triple-dog-dare for a pipe smoking pirate drawing on their Smokingpipes.com orders until they finally comply

Great stock up there! With regards to the Cary Grant mix, would you say its in the same realm as the Frog Morton line? I have plenty of the frog but I also like crossovers and am curious about the Kramers blends...
Keep trying for that pirate!

While I don't think anything will ever take the place of the Frogs (I really enjoy FM Cellar), it is a good substitute. I will say this. I first purchased it on a whim, just like many of us do, to give it a try, without really thinking it was going to be extremely spectacular. But it wowed me. It's a great blend for any time of day, any season of the year.

Goofball, they sent you the DIY kit. That's what the pipe cleaners were for! Their pirate artist is probably doing a festival somewhere. :nana:

I'm going to be sure to ask for a pipe smoking pirate on my next order. Nice haul!

Sometimes I will occasionally add a note to an online order just to see if the packers read the fine print or not. They usually don't, I ask them to write down a funny joke or something. I did get a drawing of a whale one time though.

I saw the Stokkebye bulk sale and was like okay here take my money and send me a pound and a half of the flakes, so now I'm restocked on Bullseye Flake, Twist Flake, and Navy Flake. Now they have a sale going on select C&D tins until September so I'm going through Mad Fiddler Flake to see if I should add 10 tins to the cellar.

The pipes and cigars sale on Stokkebye was slightly better, I couldn't resist, 1.5 pound box for $34 shipped with all the stacked coupons. I may have bought two boxes...

Sutiff does some excellent blends. Their aromatics are skillfully blended to be tobacco forward, backed up I think by some first rate base Virginia and/or burley. I liked their Westminster (not GLP's version), and currently have Lord Nelson in my rotation.

How do you like Mad Fiddler?
I'm liking it. The Kasturi is definitely evident and seems to be taking the lead flavor wise. It's a nice cigar leaf that has that earthy rustic incense spice flavors of typical cigar leaves. The Virginias are the more sweet fruity flavors and not really any of the grassy/hay like notes. The Perique adds a nice bit of spice and the plum/fig notes it's known for. I do see why Shane Ireland noted in the cellaring episode that he was adding it to his winter blends, because it does give that warming feeling which I can see making the blend seem a bit better during a crisp cold winter day. I'll finish the tin now, but going forward I'll probably be enjoying the Mad Fiddler more during the November-February months regularly. Also, because of the Virginias I think it would age pretty well. I'm just getting into aging blends, so based on my little knowledge I'd say Mad Fiddler will probably show a good improvement round 3-5yrs. It's still really good fresh though.
