Hello everyone, this is my first official post started. I've been smoking for several years and a follower of the forum for just about the same. I just recently purchased a GBD billiard estate from Smokingpipes.com and was wondering what to expect as far as cleaning. Have any of you had experience with their estates and the cleanliness in which they arrive?

Every estate I've purchased from Smokingpipes.com was thoroughly cleaned and ready to smoke. It never hurts to run an alcohol dipped pipe cleaner through the stem and shank though. But from my experience, cleaning is top notch on their estates. Welcome to the forums, Crow.

Oh ok, thanks for the welcome anthony. I've seen on their website that they do cleaning but just wanted to get some members input. Thanks!

You're welcome, Crow. It's late for most of us, but more members will probably chime in with their experiences as well. Smokingpipes.com is one of, if not THE most well respected online pipe retailer.

Yeah I understand, hahaa you'll have to excuse me I am sort of a night owl. I work shift work, so normal hours do not exist to me. I have bought tobacco from them several times and every time was an excellent purchase.

Yup, their estate pieces are ready to smoke upon delivery. Have purchased many of them myself.

crow, welcome aboard. I'll echo the others by saying that smokingpipes.com is a professional outfit that thoroughly cleans/sanitizes its estate pipes. I've dealt with them over years and also at pipe shows. They're well managed.

I think smokingpipes.com is a good place to start if you've never bought an estate pipe. The pipes are carefully inspected and accurately described and honestly graded for condition, and as mentioned sanitized. If you pay a few dollars more than you would on ebay, it is easily worth it because you will get what you order in the condition described. If something is wrong, they will make it right. Later, if you want to do your own reconditioning and sanitizing, and take your chances on what you get, you can try other sources. But to reduce frustration in the beginning, SP is a good place to start. After that, flea markets and antique stores may be a good next step, where you can see and handle a pipe directly and not rely on an intermediary seller to photograph and tell about it.

I bought my son an estate Peterson system pipe from Smokingpipes.com for Christmas. He thought it was brand new =) It came in a nice box and pipe sock.

My experience says the same thing as the others. I've bought 2 from them. They were both described in great detail and came in a condition that if I didn't know any better, I'd say they were new pipes, not estates.

I bought an estate pipe from them, and it was very clean and in great condition, just as described. The case was even in great shape. Fast shipping too.

Awesome! Thanks for the input everyone. If I'm able to I'll try and post a pic or two of the pipe tomorrow when it arrives.

I've purchased several estates from SP and each one was ready to smoke right out of the box. :puffy:
As a matter of fact the first thing I do on SP.com is check the fresh estate pipes.

To echo what MSO489 said, you get what you pay for. I check SP a couple times a week and have picked up 8 estates from them. I have a few silver cap and silver spigot Peterson's and got them as estates from SP. Their prices are fair and you know what you are getting. On a popular brand I dont think you will do better on ebay.
