Smoking in Public Compliment!!!!

Greetings everyone!
On way home from work today' I stopped at Taco Bell drive through. Smoking my pipe, the young lady at the window guessing around 19, said omg smoking a pipe! She said oh cool! Liked the aroma as well.
I thought that was pretty neat! I guess I need to smoke in public more often!

I often get the same response on work sites. Some will actually stand down wind of me just to get the smell.

I've had something similar happen though more through omission then anything. At the college I go to there are designated "smoking areas" that all smokers are required to go to when doing their business. Now, I've blatantly ignored that rule because it is a tiny glass box full of cigarette smokers that, to be perfectly honest, I am surprised have made it to college to begin with. They are a few bricks short of a full load so to speak.
Anyway, I find an out of the way bench and tend to smoke there. This college has the standard security patrols and I have had a couple walk by and sniff the air, look at me and keep walking rather then tell me to get my lazy butt a-movin'. Since I usually smoke at the same spot, at the same time they know where to find me but as of yet I'm still a puffin at this bench at 1230-1320 every day of the work week.

The few times I have gone with the wife at the Bingo Hall, I have brought an old Algerian Briar, Bent Edwards and some Carter Hall mixed with Boswells Northwoods. I have had a section of the Blue Hair Ladies leave the table they were at to sit closer to us saying it reminded them of their Fathers and Grandfathers.

I haven't had many of thos moments. A neighbour was walking his dog one day when I was snowblowing the drive out. He mentioned he doesn't see many people smoking a pipe anymore and that his Dad smoked a pipe. It wasn't really a compliment more a statement of fact. My customers seem tolerant when I am smoking it outside while talking to them at a build site but they just seem to know by now its what I do. No comments or compliments. The good news is I do it for me not them so I could care less.

Just last week I was in manhattan (always have my pipe when walking) and a woman stopped me to say how nice the pipe smelled. She was very pretty (first thing I noticed) and then her accent--
She was Eastern European
Should have known she wasn't American born.

I find that when I go for a walk with my pipe I must also carry a pretty heavy stick as the women are just throwing themselves at me. Just yesterday the models from the Victoria secret line up threw all their clothes off and mobbed me!. I try to explain to them that I am married but it's the smell of the pipe that sends them wild, they see no reason and I am forced to use violent measures to stave them off. I have a cattle prod on mail order and I just hope it arrives soon as it has now even effected my leisurely smokes on the balcony. One gust of Dunhill Nightcap and anything downwind from me is scaling the building with wild abandon like the zombies from World war Z.

The looks I get (no comments to report) make me feel like I'm in a historical re-enactment. People seem to

feel I am the result of some sort of induced time travel. I remember when you lived with cigarette smoke thick

enough to climb to get a better look at the surrounding country. So the time travel works both ways.

While I was on the patio at a restaurant this summer, I had a waiter tell me that my smoking a pipe was "bad ass."

I was at a local fair over the summer and as my wife and niece were on a carnival ride I lit up my pipe and stood back to people watch. A few young people walked by and one stopped and said "That is Sweet, old school pipe smoking, very cool" I guess there are a few who understand maybe.

I've received a few compliments, usually regarding the room note, but at a wedding once a guy said to me, "That's a really nice canadian; who makes that?" Thank god, because I hate not having anyone to talk to at a wedding.

Back when you could smoke in a bar I tended to have a rather dubious reputation as a bouncer that always seem to get around. Often people would walk in and as soon as they saw me..... I should mention that I'm 6'4, 280lbs, several tattoos, shaved head, smoking a pipe and wearing a army green kilt..... they would mention "We've heard about you", and yes.... women love a kilted pipe smoker.

Women are forever complimenting me on my pipes. Many have actually asked me to blow smoke toward them. And this is smoke hating California! Last night I was out for a walk, smoking a five knuckle bamboo shank straight grain Dublin by Walt Cannoy and several people called out to me about what a cool pipe it was!

I've encountered the occasional righteous grump, but that accounts for an infinitesimal percentage.

Other than the occasional ribbing about my hobbies being those of a man twice my age, most all comments I receive are positive! It's always nice to hear about others receiving positive comments!
